George Miller’s long – standing commitment to the *Mad Max* franchise is both a blessing and a curse. While his vision has given the series a unique identity, the movies have struggled financially. *Fury Road*, a critically acclaimed film, still ended up in the red, and *Furiosa* lost a staggering $120 million. Warner Bros. turned down Miller’s pitch for a sixth movie and a TV series.
From 1979’s original *Mad Max* to 2024’s *Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga*, Miller has directed and co – written every film. His team of stunt professionals has created unforgettable moments, like the tanker flips in *Mad Max: Fury Road*. However, the escalating losses are a major concern. Entertainment journalist Matthew Belloni reported that Universal, Amazon, and Sony are interested in a new *Mad Max* adventure. Miller’s ambitious plans, which include a movie and a TV series, might be part of the problem.
If the new movie and TV series are successful, Miller plans to sell the whole property. Despite the financial struggles, the *Mad Max* universe has a dedicated fan base. Whether a new studio can turn the franchise’s financial fortunes around remains to be seen.
